I’m sure most of you have heard about the Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar. Or yet, something closer to home, the murder of a Romanian teacher in Abu Dhabi. Can you find something similar in both the attacks? No. Both are Muslims who are under the delusion of waging a so called holy war.
Now I’m not going to talk about the brutality of the attacks, especially the Peshawar one, because that goes without saying. Anyone who is capable of murder is less than human. But no, I’m not going to talk about that. What I am going to talk about is what these incidents do to the Muslim community at large.
I cannot speak for any community but my own, of course. Here, they have the idea that Muslims are bred for war, like a factory producing war machines. They think that all of them have an inborn desire to kill and that desire is never sated. They think that’s what is being taught in Islamic Studies. I have read their textbooks. Nowhere is it mentioned that they have to wage wars against every other religion.
Have only Muslims committed atrocities? Have they forgotten the Catholic crusaders who slaughtered those who refused to be baptized? Apparently they were defending themselves against Muslim invaders. Maybe. But there are records of them invading and killing the citizens of peaceful nations too. Have they forgotten the anti-Sikh riots by the Hindus in India in response to Indira Gandhi’s assassination? When Rajiv Gandhi was asked about the riots, he said “when a big tree falls, the earth shakes”. And that’s their defense for killing them.
Yet do people remember this? No. Muslims are killers. Christians and Hindus are peaceful. “Those were past. The time is now”. What they don’t understand that history tends to repeat itself. But were the entire Christian or Hindu community classified as a warlike religion back then? I don’t think so. Why should Muslims be treated any different? They have their own religious nuts. The other religions have them too. There are Christian missionaries hell bent on converting every person they see. There is a Hindu man claims he will drive out Christianity and Islam from India by 2021. People don’t think the entire religion is that way. Why should Muslims be treated any different?
There are people, the fanatics, who will now claim I’m a Muslim-loving nut who wants to advocate for the release of terrorists. I am neither. All I want is for us all to live peacefully without classifying any religion as warlike because of the actions of a few delusional religious nuts. Two of my best friends are Muslim. One day I want them to walk about freely, without being treated with suspicion and disdain.
In the end, our actions are what make us. Change who you are on the inside and the one you are on the outside will change too. Cheers to a secular world.
P.S These are my views with the information I have gathered. I am not looking forward to an argument as to who is better. If you wish to have a civil discussion, feel free to comment.
